Does Aetna Better Health of Michigan pay family caregivers?

It depends which of Aetna Better Health of Michigan's two Michigan Medicaid plans your loved one has:

  • If they qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, they may be enrolled in Aetna Better Health of Michigan's Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) through MI Coordinated Health — our eligibility check confirms this for you. Kinwell is in-network here, so family caregiver pay runs through us directly.
  • If they only have Michigan Medicaid, without Medicare, they're on standard coverage, and the Home Help program is the relevant path instead, not the health plan directly.

Aetna Better Health of Michigan's MI Coordinated Health plan

The specific D-SNP product is called Aetna Medicare HIDE (HMO D-SNP).1 Per Aetna's own announcement, it currently serves 10 Michigan counties, with an additional 29 counties planned for 2027.2 No need to track down a member ID card or call Aetna to check — we confirm county coverage as part of your eligibility check.

How does a family caregiver get paid?

Since Kinwell is in-network, the process is the same as any other MI Coordinated Health plan: check eligibility, your loved one signs paperwork, a clinician confirms medical necessity, an in-home assessment sets the approved hours, and pay begins. Most caregivers going through Kinwell start receiving pay within 1–2 months. Check your eligibility →
